Back in Vienna to enjoy my Mikhalevich Award for three months. And to write my thesis.... couldn't help myself, felt this compulsive need to start blogging again. What is it with Vienna and the need to tell everybody what I'm doing...?
Anyway, the new blog (which is btw much more serious than this one, it's about The Thesis for crying out loud, how can it get more serious than THAT???) can be found here: http://thethesisquest.blogspot.com/
Enjoy :-)

Day 263 (98)
Wrapping up Vienna for this time. On Monday when I came to the ole' schloss I remember thinking "What in the world am I gonna do for a whole week??" Then just woooosch, and the week was gone. So what did I do this week then?
- Visited three favourite eating/drinking places
- Debugged same old model
- Ran in the Schloss Park
- Ate kebab
- Hang out with YSSP:ers and José and Aline
Feels like I never left. Except it's a bit colder now. And fewer YSSP:ers. And waaaay fewer national days with loads of yummie food at IIASA.
On a sidenote - why does Vienna airport have security check after shops and restaurants? Why not first do security check, then go hang at the bar, like pretty much everywhere else? And how come one glass of luke warm Leitungswasser (actually just a tiny plastic cup) is free and the second (refill) has to be payed for?
Ok all, Auf Wiedersehen for now!

Day 257 (or 97, depending on how you count)
Extremely unexpectedly to everyone involved (i.e. me) I here present a spanking new update from Vienna. When I announced (sounds pretty grand huh?) a planned visit to Vienna and IIASA, a surprisingly large number of people (>2) asked if this would also mean the Return of the Blog. Apparently people really believed me (and cared) when I said I wouldn’t stop writing until I reached 100 posts. And who knows – maybe I won't…!?
Anyway, I’m back in Vienna for a week at IIASA, to sort of keep the contact alive. Again staying in the 10th district – the hood of great kebabs, closeness to the Laxenburg bus and awesome icecream. Again sharing drinks and laughs with great people – last night, for example, we ended up inventing a rum equivalent of tequila: 1) salt 2) rum 3) banana (almost competitive actually). And again taking great pleasure in the little differences – cash is king, smoking is allowed in bars, cafés and restaurants and the toilets have a bajshylla (sorry English speaking people, just can’t come up with a good enough translation to that one). Yes, Vienna is still great :-)
Oh, and to you people who live here more or less continuously – my deepest apologies for me bringing the Swedish re-winter weather, just when you started getting used to the nice spring temperatures (roughly equivalent to Swedish midsummer temps)…..
Meeting spring in Vienna, as someone said
(and yes, that's proper snow...)
